I think it’s because TLJ was a movie that was meant to deconstruct Star Wars and Rose was one of the vehicles for that. I just don't feel as strongly about Rose as everyone else. Did she and Finn breakup off screen? They didn't have great chemistry but I saw no reason to break them up, it's not like Finn got with anyone else anyway. I know George Lucas reduced Jar Jar's role in Episode 2 because of fan backlash, but at least Jar Jar got to do something important (giving the Chancellor emergency powers, which essentially changed galactic history). I think they should have given Rose a bigger role in Episode 9 just to spite the haters, but no. She was a bubbly character, and we don't see a lot of those in Star Wars. There are many things about The Last Jedi that angered me but Rose was not one of them. However Rose is just a very awkwardly written love interest, and she's played by Kelly Marie Tran, who is absolutely adorable.

But usually, it's because those characters have done something, or multiple things, that pisses nearly everyone off, so it's somewhat understandable.Jar Jar Binks was gratingly annoying and Holdo occupied a similar role in the Star Wars fandom as Professor Umbridge did in Harry Potter, so I can understand the ire for those characters on some level. I've been a part of many fandoms with characters that have received overblown hate. ||| Join our Discord! ||| Question?
